Wulsin

The latest polls put Dr. Victoria Wulsin being a contender in the ring with Mean Jean Schmidt. This match is going to be different than most other matches simply because its woman against woman. Poll or no poll, common sense says that Ms. Schmidt is going to alter her presentation when combating Dr. Vic. She has painted herself into a corner as coarse and ruthless, marathon running, anti-abortion (kinda), I support the President straight into the bowels of hell the 2nd district of Ohio be damned kinda gal; with bleak, melancholy handlers and supporters just doing their jobs. Contrast with the charming Dr. Wulsin, who has never lied about her education, a proven problem solver who thinks outside the box, caring, energetic, who is willing to do whatever it takes for the good of the people; with excited, personable supporters and virtually no handlers.

In a thread over at Project Logic I was asked about my opinion of the poll leaked by the Wulsin campaign and the validity of what it said as well as comparing Vic’s performance to Paul’s. Here’s an updated version of my reply:

They’re tied! Good times, sports fans.

More at DKos (one, two) and BSB.

The polling company’s memo to the Wulsin campaign after the fold.

UPDATE: The poll questions

UPDATE 2: Vic’s got two of the DKos top recommended diaries now. Our Jeanie is such a great draw.

UPDATE 3 (Note to the Enquirer): HA HA!

Dang gone diggity fella’s we might just be able to cut us a sqaure and have at it! I went down to see the Wulsin campaing kick-off knowing it was going to leave me pissed off and depressed. We haven’t seen hide nor hair of Vic Wulsin in weeks which I thought was a bad sign. Boy was I wrong.

First, let me start by saying I dont care who it was or how much they got paid, whoever made up Victoria Wulsin deserved every dime and a big bonus. She looked AMAZING!. The too big, 1972 frocks were gone!! Her hair, the tailored red suit the fit her little body perfectly, the pearls, the makeup. Vic looked strong and in charge and in control. She was put together but not made up. I literaly got out of the car and said “Holy shit, look at her!!” Did I mention she looked amazing??

Howard Wilkinson has an article up in the Enquirer on yesterday’s kickoff rally.

We just got back from the Vic Wulsin Campaign Kickoff in Cincinnati. Pics are up on the site’s Flickr page.

Well, sports fans… it would seem that Dr. Wulsin has been spending her time away from the spotlight training. Her speech today was awesome. Everyone has been discounting this race thinking that she didn’t have the stomach to take on “Mean Jean”, but Vic went right for the jugular. As a fan of hard, aggressive campaigning, this one is looking like it’s going to be fun. One things for sure… the Congresswoman is going to regret even more the “cowards cut and run” crack.

I think that they’ve captured the speech on video, so we’ll let you know when it goes up.

A lot of people have been worried that this one was over before it began. Not me (any more (oh me of little faith)). Vic may go down, but she’s certainly going down swinging.

A significant improvement. I really like the About Vic page.

First off, the front door. You shouldn’t have to scroll down to enter the main area of the site. As a rule I hate splash pages, but if you are going to use them, make sure that it is as easy as possible for people to figure out how to get in. The last thing that you want is for people to get to your store, and then leave because they can’t figure out how to open the door. The simple solution to that is to make the graphic on the frontdoor a hyperlink to the main page, or to a page with more information about the event on the graphic.

On the blog section, you can’t direct link to specific entries which makes it much harder for other blogs to promote them. This is a very common problem with campaign websites.

On the main page:

  1. Never use graphics that represent multimedia controls for anything but multimedia controls. If you have graphics that look like they trigger an audio or video file, make sure that they do, or don’t use them.

  2. Coming soon. There’s almost never a reason to say this on a site. Simply say nothing, then people won’t know that you didn’t do something that you plan on doing. Why should I click on a link to a page that goes nowhere? Links are very valuable on campaign websites.

  3. Always make sure that you check your links on the site. Links are VERY valuable. See point 2.

  4. The page for the event doesn’t link to an internet mapping program so that it’s easy for people to get to the event that you want them to go to. It’s very easy to hyperlink an address with google maps. Try to make it as easy as possible for people to help you.

Wulsin Kickoff Flyer

I received this from the Wulsin for Congress campaign:

I am writing to thank the residents of this area for choosing me, Dr. Vicky Wulsin, on May 2 to represent my party during the 2006 congressional campaign in the second district. My family and I are so grateful to have earned your support, and we are excited to see that support continue to grow. I look forward to the campaign ahead and the debate to come. Above all else, I look forward to knowing more of my District 2 neighbors. The more people I have been able to meet and build relationships with, the more honored I feel to be a part of this district. The tremendous amount of support I have felt is amazing. It is a wonderful feeling to know that my husband Lawson, my four sons, and myself are members of a diverse and proud area. I am thankful for the public education my children have received here and for the opportunities my husband and I have been blessed with. It is exciting to add the May 2 victory to the list of things this area has provided for my family, and it is equally as exciting to know that veterans, college students, farmers, high school seniors, Union workers, business owners, mothers, teachers, and doctors alike have joined in supporting my family and my campaign. I look forward to telling you more about myself, my ideas, and my vision for this area.I am a woman that values life, values the health and well being of our children and seniors, and I am a woman that, once in Congress, will represent the morals and ideas that are important to the voters in this district.

I have specific strategies to improve health care and create good jobs in this area.I have a plan that will reform the tax system to lift the heavy burden off of middle class families, and I have a plan that will bring respect back to our seat in Congress.I can’t wait to share my ideas and hear your thoughts over the coming months.

I have worked in non-profit for years assisting and providing health care to children from over 20 countries and right here in Southern Ohio; to learn more about who I am or to join your neighbors and get involved, feel free to call my campaign or visit my web-site at www.wulsinforcongress.com.

I am truly appreciative to you for the May 2 victory, and I am eager to listen to your thoughts and be a strong and respectable voice for you in congress.Again, thank you so much for your support, and thank you for this great opportunity.

Sincerely,

Dr. Vicky Wulsin

Great article in the Community Press on Dr. Victoria Wulsin’s ideas on healthcare. Lots of good stuff, although my favorite is something very simple:

Wulsin said she would immediately address national health care issues that affect millions of people each year.

She said she supports the use of portable electronic health records, which would end a seemingly endless amount of paperwork during each doctor visit and could prevent fatal mistakes made on health records.

“Over 100,000 lives are lost each year just from errors made in health records,” Wulsin said.
