Hackett

Lot’s of chatter on the internet about the Senate primary fight, including several posts of your humble editor going postal. Actionpacked!

NEW

It looks like we’re gearing up for a Democrat primary fight. Lock and load my friends. Something tells me that there’s gonna be plenty of trap shoots in the next few months.

This will be a fun one for my conservative friends. Liberal blog vs. liberal blog. As long as he can keep the popular McEwen from running against him in the primary it’s all kick back and raise cash for Senator DeWine.

I was really hoping to devote myself to ripping DeWine a new one, but hey… I’ve got a lot of green party frustration to unleash and since Brown is volunteering… my doctor tells me it isn’t good to keep it all bottled up.

Party on, friends!

First rumors of Sherrod Brown running and now people spreading rumors of Hackett going off on Reid. Good times my friends… good times!

Is it just me or does somebody REALLY not want Paul Hackett to run?

UDPATE: I’m told by Hackett’s people that the story is total nonsense.

Chris Cillizza blogs over @ the Washington Post the he’s hearing rumors that Rep. Hamlet Sherrod Brown is once again considering running for Senate. Democracy Guy has confirmation from a “good” source of the rumor.

A while ago when I talked to Hackett insiders about running against Brown they said that there wasn’t going to be a contested primary. Brown has a massive war chest… an obstacle that netroots fundraising will be very difficult to overcome.

Suddenly the whole landscape changes dramatically.

ADDED: Missed a post by SwingStateProject on this.

I’m beginning to think that these rumors are a great way to feed the blogosphere fires. Something to note.

ALSO… I’m taking action that it’s not going to happen.

UPDATE 2: So I consulted my own well connected sources and got this little snippet:

…the Ex Dir, JB, of the DSC said that was all b*** s***, and no one he knows is asking sherrod to run . . . and Sherrod told Rahm and Pelosi to their faces that he had not intention of running.

How many times has Sherrod Brown “hinted” at running for something…

UPDATE 3: Now I’m hearing that Hackett will announce his bid on the 24th. Who knows what’s going on.

UPDATE 4: Zogby has Hackett beating DeWine 44.2% to 35.9% (+/- 2.9%) (via Basie!)

For fun check out how “Beechmont Bob” does against Hackett in comparison.

UPDATE 5: The Huffington Post has picked up the announcement.

Unlike during his bid for Congress earlier this year, the highly influential MoveOn.org is backing Paul Hackett’s in his potential Senate bid. The fundraising mailer sent out today included support for the Reform Ohio Now initiatives on the 2005 ballot. Could the two things be tied together?

Joshua Zeitz has a profile on one of the latest Iraq War vet Congressional candidate: Bryan Lentz, running for Pennsylvania’s 7th district.

Is possible senatorial candidate Paul Hackett taking a move out of Ken Blackwell‘s playbook in appearing at a forum tomorrow night devoted to Reform Ohio Now? The event at Cincinnati’s 20th Century Theater is entitled Reform School – Discussing the importance of Reform Ohio Now.

The alliance of progressive candidates and the Ohio reform movement could be a powerful counter to the one of conservative Republicans and the Ohio Restoration Project.

The event, hosted by the Hamilton County Democratic Forum and the Progressive Alliance of Southwest Ohio is at 7pm. [map]

Also appearing with be OSU Professor Richard Gunther, one of the founders of RON, and Jennifer Brunner, former judge for the Franklin County Municipal Court.

Paul Hackett was the featured speaker at the Upper Arlington Progressive Action’s Democratic Stars event.

It’s looking like pretty soon he’s going to get kicked off of this blog.

Kant over @ The Daily Kos was at a fundraiser last night that included Senator Chuck Schumer:

Schumer said Hackett is definitely running against Dewine and he believes he will win.

ADDED: Mrs. Editor noted that this paragraph also stands out:

They are also requiring each candidate who gets money to have a campaign manger, a treasurer and a media director approved by the DSCC. The DSCC is leaning towards endorsing stronger primary candidates early next year and then encouraging trailing candidates to bow out so as not to waste money or energy.

I’ll leave the interpreting of that to people better skilled in the ways of the beltway than I.

Ryan out. Hirtz out.

The GOP knows all about using non politicians to PUMP UP campaigns. Could Democrats for once have hacked their own native born Terminator? Paint as they might with their best picassos… Hackett is no Barbara Streisand.

The Prince of Darkness is back and he’s bringing his A game. Throw the banshees Blackwell to sate their hunger. They cannot be allowed to trigger a rout of Capitol Hill. The American Taliban may own Ohio, but Texas Oil will still own Washington.
