Two years ago Blogosphere Day was the event that kicked off Paul Hackett’s record online fundraising efforts. Blogosphere Day lit the fuse but it wouldn’t have been possible without the technology of ActBlue behind it. That’s why it’s so appropriate that this year Blogosphere Day is supporting ActBlue itself. So if you love what this blog is about, and you love how we’ve changed things in the 2nd district please show some love to the organization that made it as powerful a phenomena as it has been.
Over @ Daily Kos Senator Dick Durbin has posted a diary on the event. @ Huffington Post General Wesley Clark has a diary on the event.
Tim Tagaris, who’s been one of the main people behind making online fundraising so effective, diary about it on Open Left.
Here’s some history:
- Mother Jones’ timeline of the special election
- Some history of the first Blogosphere Day
- The Open Party Committee

Former Sen. Bill Bradley has said, “2008 could be an election in which the traditional way of running for government office will be replaced by a grassroots, internet powered, citizen movement that demands to know specifically what candidates will do to fight terrorism, lead the country at a time of globalization and technological change, reduce the budget deficit, increase national savings, break our oil addiction, secure pensions, provide health insurance for all Americans and reform our system of education. Such a development would make the people, not the media, the determining factor in the debate. The result could lead to fundamental political reform of when elections take place, how we fund them and who has the authority to draw congressional lines in the future.”
I’m that man. I am running as an independent congressional candidate in the Ohio 2nd district. My website is:
www.Longbottom08.com
And a news article about me:

It’s time to break from the traditional 2 party system. Stop the fighting, and start doing what is right for our country!

Randy,
Very interesting…
I would like to meet you and have a brief discussion about your campaign for Congress in the Ohio 2nd District.
I’d like to learn more about you and your reasons for running for Congress. I won’t bother you with e-mails or any other form of communication. This is the only time that I will make this request. You can find my contact information on our website:
As a person who HAS visited thousands of people in their homes throughout Southern Ohio, one word of advice that I will give you is that many of “the political powers that be” will ignore your candidacy. This is a strength, not a weakness. Best of luck.
Jim Parker
Future Democratic Candidate for US Congress
Southern Ohio - 2nd District
