Re: Democratic Plans For American Troops In Iraq
I don’t like the foundation of this thread.
The implication is that you have to be running for President for it to matter what your position on Iraq is. The race for the White House is a side show from the real crisis that is happening in Washington right now. Online punditry that focuses on that sideshow does serious harm in terms of making a positive impact on the real world problems that need to be resolved long before 2009.
We won control of Congress. We should act like it.
The fact that there is no consensus for resolution in Iraq from the Democratic leadership is a very real problem. Everyone wants to be a star. Everyone knows all the answers. Everyone is a genius. We don’t need geniuses, we need closers.
When I have time to worry about the race for the White House my vote will be based upon what they do now, NOT what they promise me they will do in some hypothetical future date.

Exactly, Mrs. E. They are so concerned about the extremists saying mean things (like those people will make a difference in the election) about them if they fulfill the duties of their office to provide oversight to this government run amuck. They need to do something immediately, not in 2009. Yes, I want to know that the next Democratic candidate for any office is against the war in Iraq, will work for an immediate end to American presence in Iraq, will and not allow incursion into Iran. But it is more important that members of Congress due their job and not allow 3 or 6 months more to “see if more of the same will work” . That’s irresponsible, stupid and immoral.
I would love to know what is going through Sen. Levin’s brain right now. I am shocked that he dissed Reid and supported Lieberman. Note to all Democrats – Lieberman is not a Democrat, hes from the Leiberman Egotistical Party.
For the record, this is by Mr. Editor.
Oops, sorry about the typo. I think I need to use my reading glasses to proof read computer screens. I think I’ll switch to the giant font. Another misspelling due should be do. Maybe more caffeine will help.
I must admit, after the Dems took control of the House, I had HOPED they would step up to the plate and LEAD this country to resolution of many issues facing us, NOT just the war in Iraq, but immigration, pork spending, campaign finance, etc. YET all I see is the whining diatribes of the Democratic leadership firing volley after volley across the aisle and into the White House.
So much for Democratic strategy.
I don’t see the Democrats as whining so much as still trying to treat the republicans across the aisle with respect as rational, reasonable, logical beings. Clearly this isn’t getting the country anywhere. The republicans are still slavishly loyal to their party not the welfare of the nation. Time to wake up and deal with irrational people the only way they should. Ignore them and stop them from getting in the way of stopping this war. Prevent them from bringing their bills and amendments to the floor. Control the agenda. This includes the deluded DLC Democrats who vote with the delusional republicans. They need to hold their members on these key votes to end the war and stop Cheney and Bush. What on earth anyone in Congress thinks they are gaining but supporting Bush is beyond stupid. Shove the polls up their noses and get them a clue. Reid and Pelosi need to have a back to God talk with these dumber than dirt Democrats. And for the the love of God, stop coddling Lieberman. Hang him out to dry.
There is no middle point on ending the war. A compromise won’t do anything except endanger troops. It is an all or nothing proposition. You can’t reduce the number of troops because that will increase the danger to the remaining. We need to totally pull out and have UN peacekeeping troops move in. International diplomacy with UN support must help Iraq restore a functioning government. The Bush administration is incapable of doing anything constructive. They have decimated our military. They are planning to attack Iran (I can’t fathom with what and who) . Congress has to stop them.
I just finished watching a Bill Moyers program on tv where two guys were recommending that both Cheney and Bush should be impeached at the same time. Nancy Pelosi opposes impeachment, but they said “Nancy Pelosi is wrong.”
They said we should impeach because they are behaving like kings, and that the impeachment process would be healthy even if it failed to remove them. Obviously this would require some leadership. Ha. They also said the country is way ahead of Congress on this issue.
They said all foreign policy originates with Cheney. Bush is sort of the domestic policy president. In my mind he immediately donned an apron.
You can join the movement. I prefer the slogan “impeach Cheney/Bush” to show the true priorities. This would need to focus on Pelosi. It is problematic that she would then become president.
The reason Mary left has less to do with fund raising and more to do with viability. Wulsin may make a decent run in the primary but would be dead on arrival in the general election. A moderate Dem like Mr. Black or Russ Arey are the Dems best(and probably only) chance of beating Mrs. Schmidt or whatever the GOP throws at us. Dr. Wulsin in too liberal idealogically and too lazy politically to win. In the last election she didn’t knock on one single door prefering to give speeches to friendly groups. Wulsin had her chance and Mary knows her better than most people. Readers of OH-02 should trust a seasoned political pro like Mary Huttlinger over a sour grapes also-ran such as Dr. Wulsin. Please give Mary and Steve Black the benefit of the doubt.
