I have always wanted to know, to make sense, to see the logic of the conservative movement (neoconservative, current Republican). What exactly do they believe the role of government is? How is the Bush administration’s foreign policy good for our national interests? How do people who support the neoconservative movement reconcile the lying, the election fraud, the corruption and the illegal activities of the elected officials? If their philosophy and policies are better, why do they have to cheat and lie about it? I am not being snarky but I really want to know how all of this is justified in their minds.
I understand the benefit to the people involved in corruption and kickback schemes. They have power, get paid off and believe they are too clever to be caught (hah!). But it’s the 28% who still support the Bush administration that I don’t understand. What is in it for them? If anything, they have been hurt economically in the last six years. They are less secure and the simplest things like getting through an airport or getting a driver’s license have become such a time consuming hassle. What does the average American who still supports the Republicans get out of all this? How is life better? How is our country better? How are we more safe and secure?

Karen – I know exactly what you mean. I’ve thought about those questions a zillion times over the years. Thanks for expressing the bewilderment so well.
When this war is over… When more than 10,000 American men and women have lost their lives in Iraq… History will be the final judge of the reasons that we went to Iraq. History will forever be the voice of lost American lives… We will never forget the tears of the children who have lost their parents and parewnts who have lost their children in this conflict… When will we ever learn? This could have been done in such a better way.
We all hate what the terrorists did to our country. We all fear what they could do? But are we really fighting them the best way possible right now? Has what we have accomplished been worth the price that we have paid?
I will never rubber stamp a war!

I hope that Congress is able to extricate us from this mess before the troop death toll reaches 10,000. Hey, Jim, let me ask you a question (based on your hospita adminl/health care background) -what impact will the extremelly large number of severly wounded have on our health care system? I don’t believe the Bush administration planned or funded for the kind of care these veterans need. I assume it is huge but how bad is it going to be?
Again, faced with the lack of funding to adequately supplying the military and caring for their medical needs, and all the failures, mistakes and corruption in Iraq and Afghanistan, how can people support the Republicans and neoconservatives?
Jim – I don’t understand why you don’t run now if you have all the answers to the war, health care, etc. if the rest of the dems who are willing to step up to the plate and actually do the leg work of running are in your eyes so lacking what’s holding you back until 08? Your hesitancy just makes me tend to think your all talk. While you ran once — winning office tends to take consecutive attempts … what gives.
Nice message…
I ran two times in two years. Once in 2005 and then again in 2006.
Patience is a virtue my friend. Have you ever read that one about the tortoise and the hare. Honestly, the answer is that I’m more interested in seeing my country heal than I am in running for office right now.
In time, my friend.
Karen – You asked a question about the cost of the war… Here’s a stat you might be interested in… The Dept of Veteran’s Affairs is underfunded to the sum of $1 BILLION dollars right now and yet they just paid a whole lot of hefty bonuses to some high ranking people within that department. We need to get our priorities straight in Washington.
All good things come with time…
Thanks for the info, Jim. And thanks for running. We need more people to step up to the plate (I know how much work goes into a state rep campaign, so I can only imagine what a national one must be like) i. Have a deserved rest. I know you helped Vic Wulsin during the 06 general election. Jim, I hope you run for a state office in ’08 and when they redistrict the Ohio in 2010, you could run for another seat. I think we have a great opportunity to take the 2nd in 06.
In fact, the primary democratic candidates in 06 were a terrific group and were class acts. They didn’t take cheap shots, go negative and treated each other with great respect. After the primary, they met and and worked together to help in Vic Wulsin’s campaign. It would be great for the country if all campaigns were like that.
