From the rumor mill…
Word is that Wulsin already has some DCCC muscle working with her: one for message, and one for finance. It seems that she’s already working the phones hard locking up the prized early bird cash.
Also, many are giving Vic props for the early declaration move stifling primary competition. That hasn’t stopped several potential players from considering a stab at it. Personally, your humble editor feels that the state house races offer greater potential gains than a single term Dem in the House and wonders if some of the talent couldn’t be distributed all along the ticket. Ted could definitely use some help out there in Columbus.
The big question has to be about what the landscape will look like in a Presidential year. Turnout is going to be high… that means Republican turnout is going to be very high. Will the person the Dems serve up be able to draw away straight thinking Republicans? Will Republicans be thinking that the Schmidt they know is better than the…?
Finally, on the Schmidt front, word has it that a dark horse local blue blood is considering a run in an attempt to restore dignity to the house that Rob built. With Brinkman chumming up the waters it’s difficult to see how anyone can take the Congresswoman in the primary. Nevertheless, many Dems are concerned that their beloved foe won’t be available to kick around come November. One can only hope.
p.s. it’s good to see that Barry Bennett reads our humble little publication.

HA! Wulsin’s fundraising muscle is a leftover intern from her campaign last go around and her message is being coordinated by her son who has pieced together Vic’s old press releases with out of date sound bites. Rubber Stamp? Give me a break – that’s a Hackett line. A leader with Integrity. Really Vic – if the voters didn’t fall for that line last time why will they this time? Let’s face it – she’s a political novice, who doesn’t have a clue, nor the political instinct of a stink bug. If the Republicans put up a serious contender against Jean for the primary in this race the Dems will need a much more viable contender to even hold water in this race. Get Vic off message (health care) and I would imagine she can’t rattle off more than the typical DCCC talking points. The fact that she announced early is fine but that doesn’t mean the rest of the district wants her — remember … the most successful politicians are sought after … they don’t seek the office themselves.
CD:
A little hostile toward someone who won 49.5% of the vote with no help from the HCDP or the DCCC, in an extremely republican in a fundi kind of way district, no? The good doctor is extremely bright, learns fast, and is one tough cookie under that truly pleasant exterior. Her views are that of a true Democrat. The blue dogs didn’t do so good in 2006, or why vote for repug lite when you can have the real thing, neither of which worked out well. I really don’t understand this hostility toward Wulsin especially since she did a great job in her campaign, and especially since she was new to campaigning. It’s not easy to do as John McCain is proving even for a seasoned veteran.
She’ll be even better this time and put together an even better staff. She’ll be able to attract more experienced people. Can we please stop shooting ourselves in the foot?
“She’ll be even better this time and put together an even better staff. She’ll be able to attract more experienced people.”
From your mouth to God’s ear, Goddess.
Aint it too early for this crap?
Mrs. E:
Firstly – I missed you two. Glad to see postings. I agree wholeheartedly that it’s way too early for this. I wish we had the British campaign laws – candidates are allowed to campaign for only six weeks before the election and I believe they have a cap on the amount of money they may spend on a campaign. I think it would really improve our abilitiy to elect good candidates and end most of the corruption if we took the massive amounts of money out of it and the insane length of the campaing season. We need to get back to the old FDCC rules of equal time and provided free time for candidates. I personally would like to ban those 30 second stupid sound bite ads. They don’t provide solid information on the candidates. They are public airwaves after all. Ok, I’m done ranting.
