Mrs. Editor previously wrote about the first part of the Strickland fundraiser at Paul Hackett’s house. I attended the second, bigger party at Livingston Lodge, a historical cabin, and it was an incredible evening- the kind of event that reinvigorates your idealism in a climate of cynicism.
Paul and Suzi Hackett invited me to organize the presence of young democrats. Though the admission price was $150, young people were allowed to pay at a reduced price of $20. The chance to see and interact with John Edwards, Ted Strickland, and Paul Hackett was a huge draw to me and many of my Democratic peers. A warm thank you must be extended to Paul and Suzi for making this happen.
The net effect was that Ted Strickland and Dr. Wulsin recruited about 15 young, energetic, intelligent people to their campaigns. I don’t know a single person who came away from last night anything but revved up about politics in Ohio.
Edwards was obviously the big draw, for reasons not limited to the sentiments expressed by Mrs. Editor. He talked about America’s obligation to provide moral leadership in the international community, discussing his key issue of poverty. I especially appreciated his comments on the Sudanese genocide. Though he had to leave early, the Senator was gracious enough to take a picture with us.
For many, this event provided an introduction to Ted Strickland. And he couldn’t have left a better impression. His speech was, as usual, highly impressive– tapping into just the right combination of outrage and hope. Afterwards, the Congressman took the time to talk with everybody, and he’s a seasoned pro at person-to-person interaction. He looks you right in the eye and listens to what you have to say. He has the stature to become the next governor and the humility to engage.
Paul Hackett also stepped outside to chat with us. To this day, I don’t know of a warmer and more engaging political figure. For most of my friends, it was their first time meeting Paul, and judging by their comments thereafter, he left an inspiring effect on them.
Politics is so much about personality and the ability of people to inspire others through a simple connection. The event last night exemplifies that basic and vital component of politics.

Jean Schmidt vs Victoria Wulsin: A Contrast in Campaigns…
Saturday, Jean Schmidt addressed a crowd estimated to be of 20,000 at Midsummer of the Meadows in Miami Township and spent nearly four hours shaking hands with those in the audience.
Her opponent, Victoria Wulsin, was guzzling the alcohol at P…..

What a pathetic attempt to neutralize the positive momentum of the campaign. The nastier you people get, the clearer it is that we’re on the right track.
July 10th, 2006 at 3:17 am
Well, I’m not sure how much momentum you can claim just from getting your own party to stop saying the candidate is a lost cause, but that’s beside the point. And so is the bottle. The point is the contrast.
So let’s not go getting all upset that I noticed she has a beer in her hand. After all, I know that you broad-minded liberals would never dream of mentioning something like that. Right? =P

Just because there is a picture of Vic Wulsin HOLDING a beer, does not constitute GUZZLING beer. Let’s be realistic here Project Logic. How pathetic.

Since so many of Jean Schmidt’s supporters have decided to publicly attack Dr. Wulsin on this site, maybe this is the right place to post a challenge…
A debate to be held in CLERMONT County between Jean Schmidt and Dr. Victoria Wulsin. Now those of you that know me realize that I am a moderate Democrat so don’t try any of your mudslinging on me… However, I am interested in seeing the issues debated in a public forum. And Clermont County would be a great place to see that happen. After all, Clermont County is Jean Schmidt’s front yard.
I am, within the next 6 weeks going to take this message to the media, to the Democratic Party AND to the Republican Party of Southern Ohio.
Jean, no longer have the luxury of hiding under your rock like you hid from me for months. The lives and futures of millions of Americans are at stake during this next election. And since I’m not running for anything, the least that I can do is make sure that the people of Southern Ohio have everything that they need to make an educated choice in November.
OK Project Logic, Ann Driscoll, Moderate GOP and Eric Kephas… What are your thoughts on this one?
Jim Parker
Former Candidate for US Congress
Southern Ohio - 2nd District - 2005 & 2006
“You gave us Jean Schmidt. We gave you Ted Strickland!”

Jim:
You’re a terrific campaigner so please do your magic and get Vic’s message out to the 2nd especially the eastern counties. Schmidt is an empty head talking point. Immigration, flag burning and gay marriage don’t fix the deficit, solve the Iraq debacle, create living wage jobs, bring healthcare, put food on the table and a roof over anyone’s head.

Jim
EXCELLENT IDEA!!!!!
I would LOVE to hear the two hit the issues…that is what I have been hoping for all along…Marching in parades, shaking hands, and campaign rhetoric just do not cut it for me…gotta hear the meat of the issues and the candidate’s stances on the issues.
DG…WELL SAID…damn u are sounding more like a Republican every day!!!!! All kidding aside, I agree with your message. Let’s get to the heart of the issues that affect the day-to-day economic lives of the 2nd District. Gay Marriage and flag burning issues are important but do not economically affect me.
July 10th, 2006 at 8:41 am
And Jim, please do not lump me in the Schmidt camp. I do not support her YET. I have to hear both sides before I make up my mind.
Just because I am Republican does not put me so far left I cannot see the RIGHT thing to do!!!!!

It’s nice to see Eric hating so early. That means that they’re worried.
It was a great event. It’s nice to feel that much positive energy down there.
July 10th, 2006 at 1:17 pm
Yeah rumor has that too….the camp is worried. However I never put too much faith in rumor and inuendo.
I am glad to hear the energy is there. Let’s hope it is focused in the right direction!

“Just because there is a picture of Vic Wulsin HOLDING a beer, does not constitute GUZZLING beer.”
Semantics. Pretend it said “drinking” if it makes you feel better. That’s not the point, and besides, if I were trying to attack the doctor I tend to have more fun talking about malaria.
Jim Parker:
Eric Kephas = Project Logic. And it’s my understanding that a debate has already been planned on, so I’m not sure what else you’re proposing.
July 10th, 2006 at 5:51 pm
Eric, unfortunately semantics can give others an incorrect and often maligned view of the facts. Drinking a beer is VERY VERY different than guzzling one. I figured you knew better.
July 10th, 2006 at 6:20 pm
“Semantics.” Motion to forever eliminate this excuse from the blogosphere (?) You obviously meant to communicate a specific point about Vic through your word choice- and it backfired. Deal with it.
With all his nasty cheap shots and “I know you are but what am I” immaturity, Eric is starting to sound an awful lot like another Eric we all remember — Eric Minamyer, that is.
July 10th, 2006 at 8:39 pm
Moderate:
I have always sounded like a Democrat. You just fell for the myth that republicans wanted you to believe about democrats. We know government is necessary and can be good in the right hands. We want an advanced civilized society, an even playing field and funds to go to programs that work for the welfare, safety, health and protections for everyone.
July 10th, 2006 at 9:07 pm
Ah DG, you think I actually believe you might be leaning the RIGHT way? Nah, just playing with you.
I enjoy sparring with you. We feel very similarly in many ways…methods may be different and some philosophies a bit off the path, but we both want the same… a great country! Sometimes RIGHT and sometimes LEFT.
This will be a defining election and I sure hope we get the RIGHT person , whomever that is.
July 10th, 2006 at 10:52 pm
If having Wulsin’s supporters disapprove of a post critical of Wulsin is backfiring, then getting Democrats to stop complaining that their own candidate is hopeless is positive momentum.
Err. Wait…
But seriously, you guys should probably calm down. It’s only July, way too early to be throwing your blood pressure out of whack.
