Results of SurveyUSA Election Poll #8723
Analysis: In a Republican Primary in Ohio’s 2nd Congressional District today, 4/3/06, incumbent Jean Schmidt defeats former Congressman Bob McEwen 55% to 30%, according to a SurveyUSA poll conducted exclusively for WCPO-TV Cincinnati. 11% prefer some other candidate. 4% are undecided. The Primary is in 29 days, on 5/2/06. McEwen gets no more than 36% support in any group. Schmidt won a special election on 8/2/2005 to fill this seat, which was vacated when Republican Rob Portman resigned on 4/29/05.
Filtering: 1,500 adults from Ohio’s 2nd Congressional District were interviewed 3/31/06 – 4/2/06. Of them, 1,371 were Registered Voters. Of them, 740 were Republicans. Of them, 412 were judged to be “likely voters”. Crosstabs reflect Likely Republican Primary Voters.

Looks like cutting and running is working just fine for Congresswoman Schmidt.

Wow. Amazing. It wouldn’t shock me if she was ahead by a little, but this blowout-type lead is a stunner. After all the resume-padding, endorsement-filching, national-embarrasment-fingerpointing, etc., etc.? Whoa.
Just what the hell is it about incumbency, anyway … or do the Republican voters in the 2nd just LIKE’EM mean and stupid?
The first of about a thousand predictions that I have made during this campaign is now coming true. I can defeat Jean Schmidt. But that’s not up to me. It’s entirely up to you.
