There’s a simple question that I’m looking to have answered from any candidate when they speak. The funny thing is that I don’t really care what the answer is… just make sure it’s a good one. If a candidate doesn’t clearly answer the question every time they go before a crowd, I know that they’ve got work to do. Last night there was only one candidate who answered the question for me: Jim Parker. I knew why he was running. I knew exactly what he stood for. He needed a lot of work on how he was selling his message (Jim… slow down… slow WAY down… take a deep breath… smile… relax a little… take some time off every now and then… spend it with your family… ), but at least I knew what his message was.
The other candidates all had good things to say at times, but I didn’t know why they were there. Why are you running for office?

Ding Ding Ding Ding!
YOU, Editor, get the golden plunger!
It’s one sentence folks. Spit it out sometime!
Why? To change the world.
Read the long answer at http://www.sinnard.com
Well you said one sentence.
I do have to admit that I did like what Jeff TRIED to say on abortion. Wrap it up alittle better and it may come across easier. This discussion needs to happen.
I was pretty freakin impressed with Jim Parker ! and just as impressed Vic Wulsin still cant get a coherent statement out on healthcare on her second go around.
All the candidates have improved greatly from the last time I heard them speak.
The thing that bothered me the most (a pet peeve of Mr E too) is candidates talking like they are running against George Bush and “the republicans”[which sounds more like the boogeyman]. Please..whenever you get the urge to say Bush substitute it with your opponent.
Tell me who you are and what you stand for AND what you are going to do.
I am still waiting for someone to take the charge and lead.
I never took Jim seriously in the 2005 OH-2 race. He has improved dramitically. He may also be the hardest working candidate in the group. Jim needs some help with his stump speech however. Fanon Rucker may be able to help him with that. Fanon did a presentation for last year’s candidate school on public speaking that was very informative. Someone told me that “Jim doesn’t know when to shut up”; I think it’s more like Jim doesn’t know how to stop talking.
RULE ONE: End your speech something along these lines. ” I am Jim Parker, I am running for congress and I ask for your vote on May second.
