The fallout from the Hill article about Jean Schmidt’s wacky antics at the 1984 Republican National Convention is bouncing all over the internet. Some think that it’s a conspiracy between the McEwen camp and arch-lefty Dennis Kucinich:
- Plain Dealer Openers > The hidden hand?
- NixGuy > Schmidt vs. The Hill and McEwen
- Free Republic > Jean Schmidt called young Republican activists, “young Hitlers”
I’m telling you… those backroom moves during the 04 Iowa caucuses were a sign of what a crafty devil Dennis Kucinich really is.

Call me crazy, but I actually like Jean Schmidt’s tone in these articles. She comes across as human and funny, though her career as an aerobics background instructor is further evidence of how she has had no legitimate job experience in the real world. That said, I think we would all love to see Jean in her aerobics garb circa 1984.
That’s hot.
I would have liked to see her “flashdance” or Jane Fonda garb.
“That said, I think we would all love to see Jean in her aerobics garb circa 1984.”
Umm, I think not
Seriously, it amazes me how conservatives like to yell personal responsibility when Democrats do stupid things, yet so many of us cry conspiracy when an idiot like Schmidt is caught with her pants down. The Hill is an excellent publication that gives us a ton of information about DC politics. If someone thinks The Hill is against them, they need to remove their tin foil hat.
Let’s pretend for a minute that Jackie Kucinich doesn’t have things called editors that make assignments and review articles. If she was as liberal as dad, and using her articles to grind an axe, how does it benefit liberals to assist Bob McEwen? McEwen is as conservative as Steve Chabot. I don’t think a liberal activist takes the time to help a guy like McEwen.
The fact is these quotes came from an old Cincinnati Enquirer, a rag which endorsed Schmidt last year. Some conspiracy. The Schmidt shills would be better off explaining why she’s referring to Reagan Delegates as “young Hitlers” and booing Mrs. Dole at a Republican Convention. All this shows us is that Mean Jean’s mental problems go back a long ways. She has to make a mockery of herself every time she disagrees with someone.
I kind of like 1984 Mean Jean too.
