Front page alert on the New York Times website: Boehner of Ohio to Succeed DeLay as House Majority Leader.
ADDED: Be sure to check out the DKos thread to learn all about the new House Majority Leader. This post from Roll Call is getting a lot of laughs online:
House Republicans are taking a mulligan on the first ballot for Majority Leader. The first count showed more votes cast than Republicans present at the Conference meeting.
It’s only fitting that an Ohio Majority Leader would be elected after having Ohio style voting problems.
UPDATE: More on Boehner’s K Street connections. We talked about this back in the special.
UPDATE 2: The Hill has a rundown. TPM calls it a victory for the anti-Blunt forces.
UPDATE 3: The story behind the nickname.
UPDATE 4: David Gergen reminds us of the tobacco incident on the floor of the house.

We simply MUST have an opponent to Boehner in OH-08. He’s the only Republican Congressman in Ohio without a Democratic challenger!
He’s their friggin’ majority leader! Think what they did to Daschle in 2004. We don’t need someone who’s going to win, but we can’t just let him waltz through the election. Somebody’s got to be out there on the campaign trail every day, pointing out his thick and wide connections to the K STreet lobbying cesspool!
The deadline is February 16. Who’s going to file? Somebody, anybody?

[…] Oh-02 is also pushing the “corruption” angle. They must hurry, cuz they only have a few months to demonize Boehner. […]
