The Blowmaster General links to this interesting article by John Gizzi over @ Human Events. This paragraph is an interesting summation of the special primary:
McEwen’s backers believe his loss to Schmidt was due in large part to a TV blitz on behalf of fellow conservative Brinkman that was funded by the conservative Club for Growth. (Following the race, in which Brinkman placed third, a club spokesman told me his group supported Brinkman but “had nothing against Bob McEwen,” and did not want a victory by Schmidt–who voted for a sales tax increase requested by Republican Gov. Robert Taft). In addition, McEwen’s fund-raising was hampered by the candidacy of fourth-place finisher DeWine, who had the backing of many reliable GOP donors out of respect for his senator-father. Neither Brinkman nor DeWine are considered likely to run for the seat again.
I was amazed at the keystone cops nature of the primary. Pure hubris on the local Republican Party. If anyone had bothered to stay around for the Democrat candidates debate they would have known to get their behinds in gear. People slam the local Ohio Democrats but when it came to that primary they outperformed their counterparts by a wide margin. Lucky for them in the general the Beltway Blackhats rode in and took over. Too bad no calvary will be arriving next time around. That trump has been played.
Another interesting facit of the campaign is that the Congresswoman has added an online contribution form. Pretty clunky compared to ActBlue, but still. I’m surprised that the Sith haven’t been able to match the forces of light on that front.
It will be interesting to see if McEwen will work that line for funds. If he does I expect better. His online presentation has been very impressive in the past, even if he has had a problem finding someone to write on his blog.

Most of the conservative blogs are in Schmidt’s corner. RedState.org recently put a post up urging readers to donate to her re-election.
If McEwen tries to go online for funds, I think it’ll mostly be the usual suspects just donating in a different way. I don’t get the impression he has a lot of online support.

I’ve stood on the stage with both of these candidates earlier this year… And I am fully prepared to do it again.
You see, what I am fighting for goes way beyond what any of the politicians in Washington have to offer.
10 Marines were killed in Iraq today. If Murtha had had his way, this would never have happened. Enough is enough.

[…] In The Human Events Online post, “Will McEwen Challenge Schmidt?” (HT OH-02), HEO Blogger John Gizzi makes factual errors about the both the results and the events of the Second District congressional primary that took place in June. The HEO post also speculates about a potential 2006 McEwen candidacy in the 2nd District against now-incumbent Jean Schmidt. […]

Editor, are you channeling me or what? If it’s a tool I need to know about, out with it, man.

Lawyers, Loopholes and Lobbyists… I didn’t put in a 22 1/2 hour day today for nothing. Bring it on. Ten Marines died in on roadside bomb attack yesterday. This is a campaign of good vs. evil, of people vs politicans, of honor vs greed… It’s going to take more to stop this fight for the goodness that exists in the hearts of everybody in Southern Ohio than the politicians in Washington…
As a matter of fact, since Jean Schmidt has ignored my challenge to a debate on the American Economoy, maybe bob McEwen would like to join me. Hamilton County, December 2005.

I’d be very interested to see how McEwen responds to that challenge.
And, Mr Parker, why don’t you blog? I think you should, since you seem to have a lot to say.

And, am I misreading this or are you suggesting Jean Scmidt is evil? That’s what I got from these two quotes:
“10 Marines were killed in Iraq today. If Murtha had had his way, this would never have happened.”
“This is a campaign of good vs. evil, of people vs politicans, of honor vs greed…”

I think I cut that second quote short. I should have included the second reference to the 10 dead Marines, which links them together. Sorry.

Who is Jim Parker and why does he matter to anyone else? He is obviously the most important politician in the district in his own mind.
Jean Schmidt faces a serious challenge for the Republican nomination only if all those Republican leaders who appear to dislike her so intensely can agree on one candidate to go against her. Could that candidate be McEwen? The supporters of DeWine and Brinkman in the last election have already said, “No.” So I predict that McEwen in a two way race will add less than half of the votes those also rans garnered to his original total, and come in third again. Schmidt could poll 70% in the primary. She is practically guaranteed 70% in the general election. The only heavy money likely to come into the district is GOP funding for Jean Schmidt. I would only be troubled if a new face with a strongly conservative campaign emerged to challenge Jean Schmidt. I don’t see it happening.
