So Jean Schmidt is upset that we are obsessing about her slam against Murtha. She wants to talk about the issues and not get distracted.
OK… I’m game…
Now here’s my problem: Is there anything that Jean Schmidt says that makes sense???
From the WLW interview:
I would have chosen different words but I never would have swayed from the message.
So she’s sorry for using the specific word cowards, but still wants to call everyone a chicken who thinks it’s insane that we are over there? What exactly is she apologizing for? What would be a better way to say it? Either she’s insulting Murtha or not… which is it?
I don’t get this at all.
We need to be there. We cannot abandon our troops.
Is anyone talking about ditching them over their? Sorry guys, but you’re on your own. Do you really think that they want to spend the next year over in that hell hole getting shot at? How is it abandoning them by bringing them home to America?
This is a totally silly statement that MAKES NO SENSE.
We cannot afford to pull out now, and risk the terrorists taking over that country. They take over the oil fields, they get the pot of gold, they turn that into a dirty bomb, and they point it right back at us. I don’t want that bomb going off anywhere in the United States, most importantly in Cincinnati.
What does that mean? Is Osama Bin Laden going to create dirty bombs out of their oil? Are they going to use the oil money to buy weapons? Don’t they have tons of money already thanks to their contacts in Saudi Arabia? If she is so concerned with that, shouldn’t she be screaming about Saudi Arabia which already did that funding for 9/11? Does she really think that after we leave we are going to just sit back and let Osama get his own country? Doesn’t Murtha address this issue specifically with his Marine strike force stationed near by? Doesn’t that make a whole lot more sense than just sitting there being sitting ducks for every terrorist in the world?
This statement makes NO SENSE.
I’ve been here now about 78 days, it was about 74 days, I can’t know all 434 people that are there, and the bio that they give is just you know name, telephone number, and who your chief of staff is, and how long you’ve been married, and whether, what religion you are, and what term you’re in it doesn’t give you any historical background.
She sat right there while they talked about Murtha being a Marine. Was she asleep standing up? Doesn’t ANYONE go over her speeches before she goes out there? Has someone been fired over this?
This statement doesn’t make any sense.
No, when I got there nobody gave me a rule book as to what goes on on the House Floor.
Not attacking people but ideas is BASIC ROBERTS RULES. Hasn’t she been a politician all these years? Is she totally clueless to this basic tenet to public discourse? That’s crazy. And she’s been functioning as a speaker pro tem… don’t they manage the house? How can she act as speaker when SHE DOESN’T KNOW THE RULES???
THIS MAKES ZERO SENSE.
I knew you couldn’t name-call, but I’ve certainly heard other people reference names on the House floor and (they) have not been gavelled out for that. They were doing it that day.
So you did know that you couldn’t name call. Isn’t calling someone a COWARD name calling??? Do you know the difference or don’t you? And does saying that other people do it make it OK? If George Bush and Tom Delay jump off a cliff would you?
You know I wish it was more about the policy and not about this, and, I want to talk about the policy, the fact that the terrorist mission in life is to destroy our way of life. They can’t accept the fact that we are free. You know when I was in Philadelphia I had to spend 45 minutes waiting in line, I had a couple of hours before the airport, to just see the Liberty Bell. Think about that, the symbol of our freedom, and It’s in a secure environment because of 9/11.
Let me get this straight… a struggle every day to find water… electricity problems… 60% unemployment… bombs going off all the time… BILLIONS wasted on Bush cronies… and they hate us for the Liberty Bell??? Do you honestly think that some wack job is strapping a bomb to his chest because we can watch WWE on TV? Do they even know what the Liberty Bell is?
This all sounds totally insane to me.
Have we forgotten what happened just a few short years ago? These people, 19 people, came here, and destroyed over 3,000 lives, and their families, and our security. But you know, we’re winning this war. There have been 80,000 terrorists that have been killed. That’s 80,000 less opportunities to destroy us.
Iraq has NOTHING to do with 9/11. We are creating more terrorists then we are killing. Make a million and it would make no difference. Some kind of wacky death toll tote board isn’t going to change the reality on the ground and you are insane to think that it will.
What Jeanie Schmidt did was she put the policy back on the table for debate on the House floor. Had I not asked for those words to be removed, we would have spent all night haggling over those words. The point of this is the policy. Do we continue the mission, allow democracy to develop in the region, and put the terrorists out of business? Or do we debate words and not come to a resolution?
Haven’t you been listening to what the experts are saying??? We are putting the terrorists IN BUSINESS. We are creating terrorists. HELL… Iraq is a terrorist assembly line, thanks to our bungling. If the mission is doing the opposite of the objective, shouldn’t we stop? Or do you want more terrorists.
Absolutely, Bill, this needs to be about a policy, the fact that we need to be there, and we shouldn’t be discussing this issue, we should be discussing the policy. You know the liberals want us to talk about something else besides finishing the course. The Democrats had to make a choice whether to “cut and run” or to “finish the job.” And with the exception of three, everybody on Friday night chose to stay the course. Even people like Hillary Clinton and John Kerry are saying we have to stay and finish the job.
You know darn well that that wasn’t what they were voting on. It was a set up and you know it. The Democrats haven’t been saying stay the course. They are trying to have a meaningful dialog while you insult them and throw sham bills as publicity stunts.
Now, in all honesty, there was one section where she did makes sense:
You know Bill, on Friday while the House debate was going on, Danny Bubp called me and Danny Bubp was concerned about this whole issue. Neither one of us knew that Murtha was a Marine, but I did convey Danny’s sentiments on the House Floor. This whole issue should be about the policy…
He said “You tell that congressman, what’s his name?” and I said “Murtha,” and neither one of us knew that he was a Marine.
Now the only problem is that the one section were she makes sense is where she’s been totally contradicted by Daddy Bubp.

Don’t blame me, I voted for Minamyer.

Schmidt’s absolute worst part was her gloating over the 80,000 dead Iraqis and then calling all of the dead terrorists. To be sure, her words will be studied by islamic extremeists the world over, those words may have painted a huge target on Cincinnati. Thanks Jean.
One other thing that truly bothers me in this whole affair. Jean uses a Marine to attack a Marine then turns around and calls the first Marine a liar. She’s will need to attend a lot of funerals in order to rehabiliate herself from this fiasco. Perhaps she will hire a funeral director to run her 2006 campaign.

Someone isn’t telling the truth.
Mean Jean says Danny Bubp told her to say it…Dany Bubp says he didn’t.
Is Schmidtjust making stuff up then spewing her fantasies on the floor of the House?
Probably….
Anyone who has watched her over the last 20 years or so wouldn’t be surprised.
Couple her comments with her unrealistic denials and it might appear that the proverbial screw is loose somewhere.
I think she needs help and the help she needs isn’t going to be found in Washington D.C.
If you live in the 2nd, hang your head in shame.

I REALLY hesitated transcribing this Cunningham interview because I knew you’d go bananas over it, and frankly there are points in the interview where partaking of Chiquitas is appropriate. To say that this isn’t her finest hour (or 20 minutes) is an understatement. The fact that no one who is a potential opponent from the GOP has capitalized on it is a missed opportunity, which is why I’ve concluded that the whole things has in the end helped her. The sentiment triumphs over the mistakes unless the party faithful (not they party gadflies) jump on the mistakes. Media and Democrats jumping on the mistakes only help her.
But you missed it on this one:
Iraq has NOTHING to do with 9/11 (and by extension nothing to do with Al Qaeda.
Victor Davis Hanson, one of the leading, if not THE leading historians of our time, says otherwise:
No hype needed: Saddam, al-Qaida linked

Hope you’ve chilled a few degrees over the holiday.

Tom,
That was nice of you to transcribe. It saved me a lot of time.
That article sounds like a good argument for invading almost every country in the middle east. I’ve heard a lot of intelligence expers argdue otherwise. The bottom line is that I’ve seen no evidence linking Iraq to the planning or implementation of 9/11. I HAVE heard lots of evidence linking Saudi Arabia and Pakistan to 9/11. Shouldn’t we be invading them? Of course not. Why? Because it wouldn’t make us any safer. Just as invading Iraq hasn’t made us any safer.
As for chilling, I think that I’ve been pretty chill in this whole matter, mostly just relaying what other bloggers have discovered. This story has written itself. Surely you must admit that I would be remiss to not relay the items.
