Stirling Newberry > Democrats Should Dump the Mommy Meme

Senator DeWine’s defense of the now withdrawn Harriet Miers is not exactly strengthening his base. (Does DeWine actually have a base?) Steven Kelso lays it out:
I’ve got news for Mr. DeWine as well, many of the folks that knock on doors and make telephone calls are quite unhappy with the Miers pick. Many of the people that vote in the primaries are quite unhappy with the Miers pick. I would advise the senator to take note of the 4th place finish of his son in the primary for the 2nd Congressional District.
That vote came shortly after Mr. DeWine joined the “Gang of 14,” the group of 7 Republican and 7 Democrats that together stopped the GOP from eliminating the extra-constitutional filibustering of Pres. Judicial nominees by the Democrats.
How many more times can DeWine thumb is nose at Ohio conservatives until we decide to sit at home? Is he really worth the trouble?
Point Schmidt.

David Sirota’s latest opus is live. [alternate link] It’s the regurgitation of the same crap as before. My Response:
Here you go again, repeating the same BS. I ask your readers to listen to audio of Hackett talking about Iraq two days ago. It’s the same way that Hackett has been talking about Iraq since he got off the plane from Iraq. What has changed is the political reality on the ground. Hackett didn’t “flip-flop”. He didn’t reverse himself. He did what any thinking adult would do in a worsening situation that everyone who is honest with themselves realizes won’t get any better. He said enough. Let’s get out.
Also… instead of trying to take a few words out of context to fabricate an attack I ask your listeners to listen to the audio linked about and hear what Hackett’s really saying about Sherrod Brown.
This is the kind of childish swill that I would expect from a soulless GOP hack; not from what I once assumed was a champion of progressive values. I can only hope that this mindless binary idiocy doesn’t work on Democrats since we’ve been subjected to it for years from the right.
I can only guess that your motive for peddling this junk is to position yourself as the next Dick Morris. Good luck. You’re well on your way
BTW, if you have a problem with what Paul Hackett is saying about Washington, maybe this quote from David Sirota will inspire you:
…the Democratic Party remains without an official position on almost every major issue in Congress. Just look at the last year: Democrats have no clear party position on Iraq, energy, bankruptcy, trade, tax cuts, Supreme Court nominees or corruption, other than to criticize Republicans.

Paul Hackett has featured last night on The Daily Kos and Majority Report’s weekly Fighting Dems segment. This was Hackett at his best. There’s been a lot of static on the internet lately about this race. This interview really put things back into perspective. If you want to know why I back Hackett, listen to this interview.
Here’s my favorite quote:
I am not running against Mr. Brown, Congressman Brown, and I am not running against Mike DeWine. I am fighting for all Ohioans, and by extension of being in the US Senate all Americans. That’s my fight. That’s what I’m here for. I’m not here for the title, it doesn’t interest me. I’m not there for the money, it’s a pay cut. I’m there because I want America because I want it to be better off than what I received it and I want to pass it off to my children and my grandchildren. So, that’s my fight. That’s my cause, and, that’s how I plan to fight it. Now, if Congressman Brown or Congressman DeWine take exception to my critique of Washington DC or the status quo, I can’t help that. That’s not my mission. My mission is to fight a good fight for Ohioans and Americans.
The audio of the broadcast is based on the postcast over @ Air America Place.
Media in trouble has a great review of Paul’s appearance.
BTW, here’s where you can help.

Sherrod Brown champion David Sirota has been caught in a lie attacking Paul Hackett. Mercury Rising has the gotcha.
(via DKos)
The lie has already spread around to several blogs. Given that Sirrota still hasn’t issued a correction I expect that this is just the beginning.
ADDED: Sirota has taken a different quote out of context to justify his lie without correcting it. Sean Hannity would be proud. (BTW, an honest appraisal of the political situation in Ohio is not an attack. )
