Brown Ad Buy Shifted to General Fund (UPDATED)
Posted by Editor under Speculation , Hackett , Democrat Atrios has noted that Sherrod Brown has shifted his recent blog ad buy to point to the Act Blue Ohio Senate race general fund. Atrios calls the move a “class move”, while Democracy Guy says that it “smacks of utter desperation”.
ADDED: BuckeyeSenate Blog sees a more nefarious motive behind the ads.
I’m having a hard time figuring it out.
ADDED 2: Armando @ DKos weighs in.
UPDATE: Congratulations to me, your humble editor, for winning the dumbf___ hyperbole award for calling this ad buy rovian. And here I was paying the Congressman a compliment
(I’m sorry, but if my fellow liberals don’t recognize that Karl Rove is the best political operative in the country than you are truly out of touch with reality. He is the guy that’s been handing us liberals our behinds for many years now.)
The move is really brilliant. Use Hackett’s image to raise money that you can spend if you win the primary. It makes you look like the good guy while your allies on the blogs write hit pieces that paint Hackett as an inexperienced flip flopper. And any time Hackett tries to hit back you can slam him for running a negative campaign. Sounds rovian to me.
I’m sorry if I don’t buy the Saint Sherrod routine from the blogosphere. He didn’t get his House District drawn the way it is by having bake sales and singing choruses of kumbaya. That’s good. We need liberal fighters. I want to see whichever candidate that wins the primary be ready to hit Senator DeWine hard.

Hey, just wanted to weigh in with a few points of clarification from ActBlue HQ. (Thanks to those who have already weighed in with these points elsewhere!)
As pointed out above ActBlue isn’t running the ads, though we are thrilled that people are learning about our General Election Funds.
We don’t take sides in primaries. ActBlue’s purpose is to make it easy for people to contribute to and fundraise for the Democratic candidates of their choice. To be explicit:
Contributions to Paul Hackett’s page go to Paul Hackett.
Contributions to OH-Sen General Election Fund get sent to the nominee once they’ve been selected.
As soon as we have an FEC ID for Sherrod Brown’s Senate campaign we’ll facilitate fundraising for that committee as well.

Seems classy to me…

It’s Bullshit, Brown’s ad fools people into donating to the general fund thus cutting off money for Hackett in the primary. Did Brown get Hackett’s approval to use his image on that ad?

Ah, youth.
Seems totally Rovian to me. Brilliant tactically. Improves his online stock. Standing above the fray as David Sirota rips Hackett to shreads. Saint Sherrod… I’m on your side… even you, Paul Hackett. Totally patronizing.
Maybe I’m too old and jaded. There is nothing but self interest in this sort of battle. Sherrod Brown is a fighter. He’s not playing cause he’s trying to earn his merit badge in politics.
All in all, point Sherrod Brown.

I agree with Editor and not with Ann. This is NOT a classy act but rather a hardball political move. Hackett should demand that his picture be taken off the ad thus if Brown wants people to send money on behalf of him only to general fund so be it.

Ann,
Don’t fall for Brown’s Rovian tactics. Read http://www.buckeyesenateblog.com. This explains what is really going on. You are too smart for this. I know you are since you are onto David Sirota’s tactics.

I wouldn’t give Ann a hard time. This is all so much silliness.
Everyone is very worked up because we’re waiting for the candidates to set the pace.

Armando weighs in?
I think a more accurate description would be “Armando makes an ass of himself”
