This paragraph pointed out on the Sherrod Brown Blog by David Sirota really pisses me off:
It doesn’t matter what their public reasoning is, these people for whatever reason (maybe they see better job prospects for themselves with Hackett than with Brown?) are not being honest, because no honest person could say that a Brown for Senate, and Hackett for House ticket isn’t the strongest possible way to gain the most congressional seats on election day. I’m sorry, you just can’t. It is a hard, concrete fact. As my article notes (and math dictates), winning a U.S. Senate seat and picking up a U.S. House seat is better for Democrats than competing only for the Senate seat.
I DO NOT support Brown over Hackett for Senate. By his logic the only explanation is that I must be whoring myself out for a Hackett job.
Here are the facts: I have never accepted a dime by either campaign and BOTH have tried to hire me. I have a job I love. I write software. I’m not looking for a payday by anyone. I do this because I love my state and I love my country. (Maybe I’m a fool but I felt that taking money from Hackett would taint my voice as a blogger, even though I don’t make any money doing it. I do have a substantial collection of press badges and get to act all important at local events.)
I don’t suport Brown for one simple reason. I think that there is a much bigger chance that he will lose. I think that he creates the type of race that a third rate Karl Rove wannabe can win in his sleep. I’m a Hackett backer pure and simple. Why? Charisma, guns and Iraq. Paul Hackett is a living wedge slicing through to the heart of the GOP.
This really stinks. Sirota is a huge fan of Sherrod Brown’s. He has been for a long time. If you wanna spin for your man fine, but don’t peddle lines about how Hackett backers are just looking for a payday. If you’re curious about our motives, ask us. I for one will be happy to tell you.
UPDATE: Majikthise weighs in. theshornwonder @ MyDD and Firebrand Tim Russo offers up their perspectives on the health of the blogosphere.

David Sirota is out of line. His attempt to squash serious debate with arrogance and condescension will backfire, if it hasn’t already.

I have to say the way I’ve seen those who support Hackett treated has been a real disappointment. It’s as if Paul Hackett is the one who declared he wasn’t going to run for the Senate and then changed his mind. I really fail to see how he or any who feel he is better equipped to beat DeWine are the bad guys in all of this.

Sirota is supremely insulting to all of us “foot soldiers” who canvassed neighborhoods and phoned and mailed and donated dollars we really didn’t have and worked out hearts out for Hackett. Why did I and so many others do it? To get a job? NO. We did it because we believe in Paul Hackett.
Do I believe in Sherrod Brown? Let’s just say, my trust level is really low.

Hackett adviser: Brown is “dishonorable”
Oh boy oh boy oh boy!
It’s not just liberal blogs that are tearing at eachother anymore. The professionals are starting to throw some mud. This is from the Cleveland Plains Dealer:
“Sherrod Brown told the candidate three weeks ago that he was n…

Yes - David Sirota and others that have been viciously defending Sherrod Brown and acting like those who support Hackett and are disappointed in Brown’s about face are out of line has been reminding me of Rovian tactics.

The guy who gave that quote to the plain dealer is HARDLY a professional!!!! He is an amatuer who is trying to play professional ball, and his comments are not only inflamatory, but poorly thought out. There is NO way that anyone with even the SLIGHTEST bit of experience in professional politics would have started throwing mud this early, especially when it is a member of his OWN PARTY. lets not forget who the enemy is, and get over this infighting and re-focus on what the real goal is… retaking control of our government and out country.

Yes, let’s not forget who started this whole fiasco. It’s okay for Sherrod Brown to treat a member of his OWN party shabbily, how dare those Paul Hackett people get upset over being lied to face to face.
Sheeshhh Paul should just kiss the ring and ask where they want him to go.
(/snark)

Im not knocking Hackett.. i think he should run for senate, and i know from working closely with him on the congressional race, that he has what it takes to beat DeWine into the ground and not let up untill afte the fat lady sings… im just saying that the individual who gave that quote does not know what he is talking about, doesnt know how to play at this level, and has set off a @#$%storm that will only lead to more mud slinging, and gives the republicans more ammo to throw at the primary victor
