This paragraph pointed out on the Sherrod Brown Blog by David Sirota really pisses me off:

It doesn’t matter what their public reasoning is, these people for whatever reason (maybe they see better job prospects for themselves with Hackett than with Brown?) are not being honest, because no honest person could say that a Brown for Senate, and Hackett for House ticket isn’t the strongest possible way to gain the most congressional seats on election day. I’m sorry, you just can’t. It is a hard, concrete fact. As my article notes (and math dictates), winning a U.S. Senate seat and picking up a U.S. House seat is better for Democrats than competing only for the Senate seat.

I DO NOT support Brown over Hackett for Senate. By his logic the only explanation is that I must be whoring myself out for a Hackett job.

Here are the facts: I have never accepted a dime by either campaign and BOTH have tried to hire me. I have a job I love. I write software. I’m not looking for a payday by anyone. I do this because I love my state and I love my country. (Maybe I’m a fool but I felt that taking money from Hackett would taint my voice as a blogger, even though I don’t make any money doing it. I do have a substantial collection of press badges and get to act all important at local events.)

I don’t suport Brown for one simple reason. I think that there is a much bigger chance that he will lose. I think that he creates the type of race that a third rate Karl Rove wannabe can win in his sleep. I’m a Hackett backer pure and simple. Why? Charisma, guns and Iraq. Paul Hackett is a living wedge slicing through to the heart of the GOP.

This really stinks. Sirota is a huge fan of Sherrod Brown’s. He has been for a long time. If you wanna spin for your man fine, but don’t peddle lines about how Hackett backers are just looking for a payday. If you’re curious about our motives, ask us. I for one will be happy to tell you.
