Now Sherrod Brown is taking credit for Paul Hackett’s massive online fundraising drive in this year’s 2nd special. Sorry Congressman. You didn’t do it. Your web portal didn’t do it. Thousands of Hackett backers around the country did it. (Especially Kossacks and members of DFA)

If there is one valiant soul who deserves credit for the rapid rise of Paul Hackett’s reputation on the internet, it’s Eric Minamyer. Everyone else is just being an opportunistic poser. Sorry Congressman.

I know that you want to calm down all of us Hackett supporters who are a little pissed at you right now, but trying to pass yourself off as Paul Hackett’s friend by taking credit for other people’s hard work isn’t the way to do it.

If you want people to trust you, be straight with them. You’re a great Congressman. You’d make a great U.S. Senator. You’ve just got a little work to do on being a mensch.

(For the record I’ve accepted no money from either the Hackett or Brown campaigns at any time, although both campaigns at one point have tried to hire me.)

BTW, David Sirota is one of Sherrod Brown’s biggest champions online. I love his writing and understand why he’s such a big fan but it’s obvious that he’s been drinking the Sherrod Brown kool-aid on this one. Read Pounder’s DKos diary for why he’s so off.

Another recent post on the race is the one by DavidNYC where he gets some facts wrong about Sherrod Brown. Personally I hate these faux numbers games. Brass tacks: if you think that one of the most liberal members of Congress can take Ohio right now, I think you are crazy.
