Interesting item in tomorrow’s Whistleblower:
When “Mean Jean” Schmidt gets to Washington, what will her first piece of legislation be? According to Whistleblower Research Bureau Chief Fearless Ferrett, word is she’s already busy working on her Bloggers Reform Act of 2006, that’ll require hosts to be personally criminally liable for all the lies published on their blogsites. But this wouldn’t actually affect the Blower, since we’re not really a blogger.
We’ve found other hints of Ms. Schmidt using her new status as Congresswoman elect to take on bloggers. Over @ The Mockingbird:
So, yes, I think the FBI is now investigating whether or not the Mockingbird is really just a front for some sexually perverted website. It’s not - though it might be hard for Special Agent Lawrence to determine given the winning entry for the campaign poster contest.
We’ve had confirmation of this action from another source.
Stay tuned, sports fans…
UPDATE: We have confirmation of the FBI’s involvement in investigating bloggers who covered the Ohio 2nd special. That is not the case with The Whistleblower’s statement, which also has to be taken with a certain grain of salt given the source. (remember the item about Jesse Jackson campaigning for Hackett?!!)
CORRECTION: Another typical Whistleblower scoop. RedState contacted the Schmidt campaign and received this response from the Congresswomen:
I have no plans for any legislation at this time, including the legislation mentioned in today’s Whistleblower. I am busy hiringg a staff and preparing to be sworn in as a Congresswoman.
We have received the same statement along with the statement from Schmidt’s campaign manager Joe Braun that they are currently working on getting the Congresswoman into the blogosphere.
The FBI portions of the post still stand.
UPDATE 2: The Blower is sticking to his guns… in Sunday’s edition:
Speaking of our blathering bloggers, they got all bent out of shape on Friday after the Blower leaked Congresswoman-in-waiting “Mean Jean” Schmidt’s secret plan to get even with all those lying bastards when she introduces her dreaded “Bloggers Reform Act” of 2006, making hosts personally and criminally liable for all those lies published about her on their blogsites. Her Meanness sidestepped the issue deftly, when her Transition Chief, Joe “Mr. Don’t Tell It All” Braun, issued a statement that she did not actually have any such plans “at this time.” And those silly ass bloggers actually bought it. Are these guys easy to fool or what?
We’ll just have to keep our eyes pealed…. price of liberty and all that. If you ask us the real legislation that we need to be worrying about was already passed.

OH-2: Jean Schmidt To Last Out At Bloggers
Ohio-2 blog reports that Mean Jean Schmidt’s first piece of legislation in Congress will be to make web-hosts criminally responsible for “lies” published on blogs. Amazing. P.S. I have gotten a lot of emails today and yesterday, but am out of town f…

I trust the legislation will be written broadly enough to include the Swifties.
August 12th, 2005 at 3:24 pm
Ahh… but they don’t have to worry since they only ask questions.
Here’s an idea: Write a text parser that turns everything into a question, therefor it’s impossible to lie.

OH Jean to quote for President which you support so much “Bring It On”. This just shows that the right is scared to death of the bloggers. Guess what neo-cons - It is only going to get worse!!

It’s about time that someone do something about those dishonest, YE, wing-nut bloggers!

Oops. I meant “did something”. I’m used to previewing first. Live and learn.

[…] Ohio 2nd - Schmidt vs. Blogs (UPDATED) […]
August 12th, 2005 at 4:56 pm
If Jean Schmidt wants to get serious about lies in alternative media, then go ahead. Watch the right-wing blogs disproportionately shut down compared to the left-wing blogs. I’m sick of the Drudge Report anyway.

BRING IT ON!!
It appears our new congresswoman, Jean “I love dead soldiers” Schmidt is going after the bloggers. Basically, she’s already working on the “Bloggers Reform Act of 2006″ that’ll require hosts to be personally criminally liable for all the lies pu…

CORRECTION: Another typical Whistleblower scoop. RedState contacted the Schmidt campaign and received this response from the Congresswomen: (followed by text of correction)
One of these days someone’s going to understand that The Blower is a satirist who sometimes does and sometimes doesn’t print the truth, and from time to time gets an interesting type of enjoyment from watching others fail to make the correct distinctions between the two. This would be one of those times.
I take it that the first nine comments here were written before this correction, as, based on the response from Congresswoman Schmidt’s office (not the Schmidt campaign, snark snark), she has no plans to do anything about the blogosphere except perhaps to participate in it in some way down the road.
That makes the first 9 comments “inoperative,” no? And all those speculating on the Schmidt nonsense would seem to look pretty foolish at the moment, and by all rights should say “I was wrong. I am sorry,” perhaps followed by “I allowed myself to be misled” (or “I was suckered,” if that feels better).
As to the FBI involvement, I’d like to know how this is known, because I’m very skeptical about it. If your sole source is Mbird, let’s just say I have personal reasons to doubt his veracity (or HIS seriousness). If elsewhere, be advised that normally the FBI won’t even say that they are investigating something or somebody unless a subject of said investigation tells someone else about it, or in Mbird’s case, tells the whole world. Again, if Mbird is the only source, I’m dubious. If you’ve got others, out with it.
August 12th, 2005 at 8:27 pm
On rereading, it appears you have another source, but since Mbird won’t reveal himself, you can’t know that he/she isn’t the only source anyway.
The better questions would be:
- WHO ASKED the FBI to get involved (if they are indeed involved)?
- EXACTLY WHAT are they investigating?
My guess, and it’s only a guess, is that certain lefty blogs would have reason to be concerned, and that it’s not a free-speech issue. I’ll leave it at that.

Mbird is not my only source.
I don’t think that I would consider them a leftie blog, either.
August 12th, 2005 at 11:27 pm
I didn’t say Mbird is a leftie blog, and I don’t think he/she/it has anything to be concerned about relating to his/her/its blogging. Unless bad taste has been criminalized, which would then turn Mbird’s situation into a capital case (ha).

Once again OH2 takes off after phantoms. What the heck, stirring people up against Schmidt seems to be the purpose here. The Whislteblower is 90% or more satire. He is not reporting anything seriously. Anyone who thinks he is serious has no sence of humor.
This whole stunt had nothing to do with “boats” but it sure shows some seriously flawed leaps to conclusion. Those in glass houses should not throw stones, OH2. You ran this story as fact, and it was picked up by others.

I seem to remember bloggers having no problem with citing the BlowHard’s posts in the past when they slammed Hackett.
I’ve never been a fan of the parody as political commentary that seems to pollute local coverage of events, but what can you do about it. I wouldn’t have cited him if I hadn’t already heard of other events that fit a pattern.
