Is anyone still out there?
While everyone else was framing the results we were exchanging dozens of angry emails with Dreamhost tech support.

You were there when it counted! Thank you. And I am a major fan of Mrs. Editor, hope she continues to post.

Thanks!
I’m trying to prod her into posting something soon.

We’re all still here. I felt like a lost a limb when you all went down. Glad you’re back!

Sorry we let you down there. At the end I’d make a simple little post on something and it would be echoed back a hundred times. Eventually it just crushed us.
I will say that we used the down time for some much needed sleep. I was almost grateful that I couldn’t comment on the race.

I could have used some level-headed commentary and discussion from here while the returns were coming. Can’t say that much of that was going on at Eschaton. (Too many trolls…)
Many of the people I know who rarely vote in midterm elections actually voted this time. Several people I know said their family members voted for a Democrat for the first or second time ever. Even a couple hardcore conservative Indian Hill friends voted Hackett. I was impressed.
Are you going to stick around to cover future races in the area? And what will you do in the meantime, when nothing is happening around here?

Something is happening here.
I don’t know what I will be doing but this site will be here.
Schmidt will be in Congress and she will be acting. We need to cover what she’s doing now. The fight for good government doesn’t start a few months before an election. It is a constant struggle.
The more light that is shined onto her actions the more she will be forced to act in the best interests of her constituents AND the easier it will be for people to challenge her next year.
Schmidt promised the people of the 2nd results on energy, the economy and in Iraq. We need to make sure that she continues to be a voice on those issues, and that her actions deliver results. If she is not, than we need to call her on it.
Schmidt may be under the impression that her struggle is over and she can take a break in order to focus on fund raising for the next election. That would be a mistake.
It’s up to you, friends, to help maintain the pressure on Ms. Schmidt. And as you do so, please be sure to let us here at the Ohio 2nd blog know of your activites so that we can share them with everyone else in the area.
If you write her a letter, please send us a copy. And if she responds, please send that too. And if she doesn’t, please let us know about that as well.
There is nothing that people in Congress hate more than attention upon what they are really doing. Well, my friends, in her victory, Ms. Schmidt has just become the first lucky subject in a new style of political blogging. One were her actions as a representative for the Ohio 2nd gets examined with a critical eye.
How critical an eye it will be is up to you. I’ll need your help. I can assure you that it will be fruitful.
