Eric Minamyer has posted answers to his questions on Hackett’s service in Iraq. We thank him for clarifying things and consider the case close.
He clarified things that were already clear.
What does it mean to be an “advisor” to the Schmidt campaign? I realize it doesn’t make Mr. Minamyer a “spokesperson” for Schmidt but doesn’t it imply some sort of strategy or informational connection to the campaign?
He kind of redeems himself in that post. He really should say sorry to Paul.
I am not, repeat not, an advisor to the Schmidt campaign. We had one discussion several weeks ago in general terms about the training of the Iraqis and the exit strategy, but it was more of a very short (2-3 minutes) briefing by me to her.
She had asked for and received no advise from me other than in form of me giving her information that she could use relative to those subjects. She surely does not need advice from me about strategy.
I have had no role in strategy. My blogging is not part of a strategy of any kind. It was me trying to find out the facts behind the tv ad and just the tv ad.
OH2 got information from the Schmidt campaign to that effect last week and he posted it, although he added editorial conjecture that Joe Braun was not being truthful. Joe was telling the truth.
I have never discussed the content of my blog with anyone in the Schmidt campaign. Jean’s views on blogging were expressed in the Channel 12 report.
If you don’t like what I said or the questions I asked, that’s fair.
If you try to blame Jean for it, that’s not fair.
If you criticize me for a spin or expansion of what I actually said as being reported by someone else rather than the original blog, that is also unfair. Hearsay is not reliable.
Also, my little blog is insignificant. The broadcast of the questioning was started by OH2. If it had not appeared here as allegedly being from Schmidt, I am sure no one would have cared about my insignificant blog.
I corrected my statement that he did not serve in combat because he says he did on October 21, 2004 while traveling from Ramadi to Fallujah. With that fact in hand the voters like me who do care about the details can decide for themselves. Many of us do care about the details even if others do not or you believe we should not. I got answers and reported them promptly.
I believe all who alleged that Jean Schmidt was responsible for me asking these questions should correct themselves as well, including our editor. Jean Schmidt not only had nothing to do with it, I understand she disapproves of blogging period.
FYI, I never said that Schmidt was responsible for anything. I said her advisor was, and before Schmidt thinks about wanting to go further with this she should reflect back on what she was saying after the debate. I do believe that it was on tape.
