Ann Driscoll has posted an excellent report in her diary over @ MyDD on the Citizens for Community Values Candidate’s Forum. She may very well be right in her prediction that Schmidt will get the nomination. Her strong ties to the local Party infrastructure will certainly help her with any of those “irregularities” that Ohio’s Election Boards are so famous for.
She wore a bright red dress, and her appearance commands attention. She began her speech, quietly reminding the audience of her experience in the state legislation, and her close relationships with Joe Hagan and Rob Portman. Her voice can have the soothing quality of a first grade teacher reading a children’s book, or a massage therapist. But then, suddenly with vigor, the voice can take on a wholly different timbre- one of ruthless determination. Since her cause is characterized by the most extreme elements of the conservative party, her passion and confidence sent a chill down my spine. Her voice modulated with a piercing self-righteousness around four times: to explain her successful blocking of federal money to Planned Parenthood; her activism as a picketer outside of abortion clinics; her position against abortion with no exceptions; and finally, to announce that as a marathon runner in excellent shape, she can’t wait to go to Washington so that she can fight “Nancy Pelosi, Barbara Boxer, Dianne Feinstein, and especially Hillary Clinton.” The comment drew laughs and if I hated these remarkable women- all of whom are role models to me- it may well have been humorous. But the determination in her voice got my heart racing. Jean Schmidt is a tough woman, and she means what she says. She will get the nomination. (more…)
Is this really the voice of Southern Ohio?
UPDATE: BizzyBlog has up a Republican perspective.
VikingSpirit has some info on the DeWine no show:
…DeWine campaign manager Sharon Jones said “We’ve attended all the events, but we are not at all sure that this is a neutral forum.” Yes, the group’s president has given his endorsment to Bob McEwen, but that’s not a reason not to attend the fourm. I think Pat’s campaign was just worried he’d get hammered more over his personal issues, given this is a CCV sponsored fourm.

They don’t call her mean Jean for nothing; this woman has a dark side. It is rumored that once Jean makes up her mind she is obvilous to any argument to the contrary. She isn’t the type of person I want representing me in Congress. Jean would fit in well with single minded neo-cons. They would simply use her and her “morality” to thier advantage. They would whisper “Jesus” in her ear and have her vote on corporatization of the United States. A vote for Jean or any other republician in this race simply means more welefare for Walmart.

It will be a sad day for sw ohio and the us if schmidt is elected.
As state representative, she blatantly ignored the constitution by not following the Ohio Supreme Courts decree to eliminate particular problems in the school funding system. She voted to make worse the very problems the supreme court directed be fixed…. such as reducing the reliance on property taxes.
As candidate for state senator vs Tom Niehaus, she was involved in the questionable campaign funding propogated by then House Speaker Larry Householder. Householder was unhappy that Niehaus voted NO on state budget bill so he directed all the PACS contributing to him to contribute only to Schmidt. Any PACS that contributed to Niehaus were told they would no longer have access to Householder. She accepted all of the donations.
Schmidt is not my idea of American values.
